San Bernardino County Rent Relief Partnership

The San Bernardino County Community Development and Housing Department (CDH) is partnering with Inland Southern California 211+ to assist San Bernardino County residents with settling rental arrears and utilities that accrued due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Applicants can apply for up to 12 months of arrears (rent) and utilities accrued from March 13, 2020, to present and up to three months of prospective rent. The program will be available through September 30, 2022, or until all funds are exhausted.

About the Rental Relief Program (RRP)

The San Bernardino County Rent Relief Partnership is open for San Bernardino County renters in eligible areas seeking rental assistance!

  • Eligibility is limited to renters in San Bernardino County with a current written lease or rental agreement, a household income of less than 50% Area Median Income, and a documented loss of income or financial impact due to COVID-19.
  • Assistance is available to qualified households without regard to immigration status.
  • The Program can help pay up to 12 months of past due rent and late fees incurred from March 13, 2020 until the time of application.
  • Now offering past due eligible utilities (electric, gas, water, trash, and sewer) and future rent
  • Tenants and/or landlords may apply for assistance, participation from both parties will be required.

Eligibility

  • Household must reside at an eligible address located in the San Bernardino County, and;
  • Household must be obligated to pay rent on a residential housing unit, have a household income at or below 50% of area median income (AMI) see income table, and;
  • Also must meet one of the following:
  • One or more individuals within the household has qualified for unemployment benefits or experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, or experienced other financial hardships due, directly, or indirectly, to the COVID-19 outbreak; or
  • One or more individuals within the household can demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability (i.e. unpaid utilities, eviction notice, unpaid rent notice).

Program Prioritization

  • San Bernardino County prioritizes its hardest to serve households with extreme income earning up to 50% AMI.  To meet the needs of this population, the program has been designed to prioritize members of this target population as its programmatic focus.

Required Documentation

Please allow approximately 15 minutes to complete the application process. The following documentation is required, please ensure you have:

  • A current government-issued photo ID (State-issued Driver’s License or ID, US Passport or Passport Card, Foreign Passport, Government’s Consulate Issued ID Card (i.e.: Matrícula Consular), Permanent Resident Card or Visa, Military ID or Other Form of Government Identification)
    • Written rental/Lease Agreement
    • Utility bills (Gas, electric, water, trash)
    • Documentation demonstrating a COVID-19 related financial impact, and
    • Proof of total household income from 2020 (this included all adults,18 and older), and
    • Documentation of housing instability (i.e. unpaid utilities, eviction notice, unpaid rent notice).

You will NOT be eligible for assistance without providing the above eligibility documentation. A complete application, including submitting eligibility documentation, is REQUIRED for application submission and to be considered for assistance.
